Welcome
We know how hard it is to try out a new thing, much less a new church. What do I wear? What do they believe? Do I know anyone already? How do I get to know others in my stage of life? There are a lot of unknowns, however, we can answer a few of those here on this page to help you feel comfortable with the church before you even walk in the door (which we hope is soon)!
Our Values
God is our Father. He protects, disciplines and cares for us. He provides for us generously.
For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave to fear; but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by Him we cry “Abba” (Daddy) Father.(Rom. 8:15)
Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit Who calls out, “Abba, Father”. So you are no longer a slave, but a son (daughter); and since you are a son (daughter), God has made you also an heir. (Gal. 4:6, 7)
Yes, that’s us! This is an invitation beyond “friends” (John 15), sons (John 1), servants (Matthew 10:24, Luke 12:43) sheep (John 10).
It is an invitation to intimacy and enjoyment.
It invites to an encounter with God that is conversational, pleasurable and filled with exciting surprises!
In His presence is fullness of joy; at His right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16)
As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.(Isaiah 62:5)
The Bible’s final picture of the church is the Bride of Christ. Jesus is returning for a people in love with Him, not just serving Him.
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” (Revelation 22:17)
We sense our deep need of surrender to the Holy Spirit. We long for His fullness in our lives. He is the source of our experience/encounter with the Father as His children (John 3:16) and the Son as His bride (I John 4:13).
We know that we live in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. (1 John 4:13)
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, Who is in you, Whom you have received from God?
You are not your own. (1 Cor. 6:19)
Be filled with the Spirit. (Eph. 5:18)
God’s Holy Spirit is the source of our enablement and empowerment. He aids us in our witness, prayer, worship, sanctification and edification. As He is welcome, His gifts are received gratefully and utilized responsibly.
(I Cor.12:14)
It is our joy to realize that the cross doesn’t just show us God’s love for us and our worth to Him, but it also opens us to God’s invitation to fully enjoy His presence. Adoration, praise, declaration, thanksgiving, and singing are part of our corporate gatherings. These are entered into expectantly.
You are enthroned as the Holy One; You are the praise of Israel.
(Ps. 22:3)
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. (Ps. 95:6)
We are “addicted to spiritual growth” since we have discovered that it opens up an ever-expanding view of God’s glory and His desire to transform our lives. We do not want to remain the same – stagnant or complacent.
Our hearts need reclaiming and healing.
Our wills need captivating and surrendering.
Our emotions need releasing and holy rejuvenation.
Our spirits need restoration.
We believe that God, the Holy Spirit, plants deep within us, truths that transform. While brokenness can be messy, it is the path to wholeness and holiness. Dorset Park Baptist Church is a ‘grace’ place! It is a house of restoration.
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. (2 Pet. 3:18)
I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death… (Phil 3:10)
The church is a glorious community of redeemed ones, with Christ as its Head. It is essential that we are aware of the global expanse of what God is doing through His people throughout the world.
The church is built by Christ, and His kingdom is abounding.
The church is a kingdom where Christ is King, and we His subjects.
The church is in many respects, an “up-side down” kingdom. It is to be enlarged through the declaration of the Good News of the Gospel.
The Kingdom of God is to be the dominion in which we dwell, walk and claim as princes and princesses of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. We are managers, not owners of what God has entrusted to us. Our prayer is:His kingdom come; His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. (Matt. 6:10)
Jesus went throughout Galilee teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness among the people. (Matt. 4:23)
Community is valued – a community rooted in love for and centred on Jesus.
We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. (1 John 1:3)
The Godhead – the communion of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit – gives us our model of living in love with each other. Honesty, affirmation, loving accountability and Christ-like love characterize our interaction with one another.
God wrote a book! Its truth brings us to light and liberty (John 8:32). It’s the source of our faith (Jude 3; 2 Peter 2:20) and governs our conduct. God’s Word taught and applied changes and transforms our lives.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Tim. 3:16, 17)
I will walk about in freedom for I have sought Your precepts. (Ps. 119:45)
We believe that life only has purpose when lived in God’s presence.
You are enthroned as the Holy One; You are the praise of Israel.
(Ps. 22:3)
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. (Ps. 95:6)
